The Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute at Ohio State University collected my dance environments and drawings for their Performing Arts Archives. The Archives team have exhibited selected works from the collection over time. The OHIO CHANNEL videotaped highlights of the Ohio Council for the Arts/Riffe Gallery exhibition, Design For The American Stage – Caroline Beasley-Baker. This is a good illustration of the lighting effect on the Hendrix Project floor along with 3 of the preliminary drawings. View at: www.ohiochannel.org.

I began my first collaboration with choreographer Bebe Miller in 1990 with the support of a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Painting. I was using theatrical light in my installation work and wanted to further explore light and paint in a theater setting. The jumps in color shown in these photos demonstrate a surface painted for heightened shifts in color in response to light. See Painting Environments for more . . . .

3 projects are shown:

Heaven + Earth.

A 3-part project based on my concept. See Painting Environment Installations for more. Parts 1 and 3 had a theatrical curtain with fluorescent paint, oil stick and acrylic gems and a child's chair—fall leaves and paper birds for Part 1; Part 2 had the addition of a painted floor, columns and painting along with steps and the child's chair. Parts 1 & 3 premiered at the Joyce Theater, NYC. Part 2 premiered at the 91st Street Playhouse/92nd Street Y as a part of the inaugural Harkness Dance Series. Light deisgn: Michael Mazzola.
